Multibiometric Authentication

چکیده

While some biometrics, such as fingerprints, handwritten signatures or facial photographs, have been used in forensics for a good century or longer, modern biometric technology, both for person authentication and for forensic applications, has come to the fore as part of the rapidly expanding capabilities of computer technology in the final decades of the 20th century. A recent review of the history of speaker recognition begins with the words “research in automatic speaker recognition has now spanned four decades” (Furui, 2005), and other biometrics such as face, iris or finger recognition, have been topics for intensive research for about the same period. Only more recently, however, these technologies have moved out of the research labs and into commercial applications, having first required considerable progress in the signal processing and pattern recognition fields to address the difficulties that are inherent in the various biometrics. The main problem in the development of algorithms for the automatic identification or verification of persons is the within-subject variability of the different biometrics. All biometrics show a long-term aging effect, which may be more pronounced in a biometric like face recognition and, for example, less in one like iris recognition. Some biometrics have strong behavioural components and thus significant within-person variation, such as speech, handwritten signature, or facial appearance; and all biometrics are subject to variations in the capture of the person’s biometric features, starting from the environmental conditions, in which the biometric is captured, and the variability of the biometric sensor, through to the distortions in any transmission channel and in the digitization of the analogue sensor data, as shown in Fig. 17.1.

An Elective Multibiometric Authentication

This work aims to develop an elective multibiometric authentication. The novelty of this work is to develop the principles of distinction and multibiometric authentication, because at the moment there is no such development. Depending on various conditions and factors, including the availability of electronic means and convenience, resistance to attacks and exploits, disease or injury of users ...

Multibiometric Template Security Using CS Theory – SVD Based Fragile Watermarking Technique

Protection of biometric template against spoofing or modification attack at system database is major issue in multibiometric system. Hence fragile digital watermarking technique is one of the solutions for biometric template protection against these attacks. In this paper, fingerprint watermarking technique based on SVD and Compressive Sensing theory proposed for protection of biometric templat...

Fusion of electrocardiogram with unobtrusive biometrics: An efficient individual authentication system

This paper explores the effectiveness of a novel multibiometric system that is resulted from the fusion of the electrocardiogram (ECG) with an unobtrusive biometric face and another biometric fingerprint which is known to be a least obtrusive for efficient individual authentication. The unimodal systems of the face and the fingerprint biometrics are neither secure nor they can achieve the optim...

Multibiometric Systems Based Verification Technique

Multibiometric systems represent the fusion of two or more unimodal biometric systems. Such systems are expected to be more reliable due to the presence of multiple independent pieces of evidence. Since security is one of the important concerns of twenty first century, multibiometric systems can play an important role in ensuring security. In this paper, a multibiometric system is proposed for ...

Evaluation of Electrocardiogram for Biometric Authentication

This paper presents an evaluation of a new biometric electrocardiogram (ECG) for individual authentication. We report the potential of ECG as a biometric and address the research concerns to use ECG-enabled biometric authentication system across a range of conditions. We present a method to delineate ECG waveforms and their end fiducials from each heartbeat. A new authentication strategy is pro...

Multibiometric Systems: Overview, Case Studies and Open Issues

Information fusion refers to the reconciliation of evidence presented by multiple sources of information in order to generate a decision. In the context of biometrics, evidence reconciliation plays a pivotal role in enhancing the recognition accuracy of human authentication systems and is referred to as multibiometrics. Multibiometric systems combine the information presented by multiple biomet...
